🕺Divertida ! Divertido ! . . . . Fun-filled Fiesta! 💃
It was a cold winter night in Sydney on Saturday June 4th 2022, when the Thomian Mexican Fiesta went off with BIG BANG - like a loud Latin firecracker. The Roselea Community Center was HOT! HOT! HOT! All night long! as we laughed and danced and ‘sang-a-long’. Right from the get-go OBA president Sanjiv Vivekanandan invited us to ‘break free’ yet again; more than a year since we snuck through our last big event, thumbing noses at the dreaded COVID.
A magical Mariachi Band of troubadours went from table to table infusing merrymakers with their marvelous Mexican melodies. Not to be outdone, DJ Sebb blasted out some old favorites from Arrow to Lionel Ritchie and all the latest dance hits too.
The smorgasbord of Latino inspired dinner was delicious and filling. Some may have felt it was time for a Saturday Siesta. But there was no way anyone could stay seated as the DJ drove them back onto the dance floor.
MC Duke was in topping form keeping it all on track while the Mexican Midnight Special hurtled along like Speedy Gonzales on steroids shining its dazzling light on all. Oh, what a night! Down Mexico way! Local panchos in their ponchos, some even in sombreros, added colour and humour to a joyous night of celebration.
As always, we are mindful of the extraordinarily tough times in Sri Lanka and at STC. We were reminded that we are coping and helping out as best we can, each in our own way. So, in solidarity, we started with an evocative bi-lingual rendition of the “Sri Lankan National Anthem'', inspiring each of us to do even more.
