Thomian Family Night 2024

Oh! What a Night! Thomians Dance Through Time and Tradition

"Tempus fugit, Thomian saltant" – Time flies, Thomians dance

The 2024 Thomian Family Night was a splendid affair, exceeding all expectations with a night filled with ceaseless dancing and jubilant camaraderie. The event was a harmonious blend of nostalgia and contemporary delight, making it a night to remember. A big thank you to all our sponsors for making it all possible.

"Musica universalis" – The universal music. The evening's entertainment was masterfully provided by Redemption and Pius, whose repertoire spanned a diverse array of genres, ensuring there was something for everyone. The music only paused for a captivating Tango masterclass and an exciting raffle draw. Among the many prizes were two return flights to Sri Lanka, courtesy of Sri Lankan Airlines, and a 4.5-litre bottle of premium whiskey that drew considerable attention. No doubt, the winning table celebrated well into the early hours.

"Carpe noctem" – Seize the night. Despite Sydney’s mid-July chill and a slight drizzle, the venue was imbued with the warm, familiar ambience of a Thomian gathering. The decor, awash in blue and black, featured the iconic Thomian flag and crest, setting the perfect scene for a night of revelry.

"Labor omnia vincit" – Work conquers all. The seamless orchestration of the event was a testament to the dedication of the OBA Committee, working tirelessly behind the scenes. Leading the festivities was our charismatic Emcee, Duke, whose efforts ensured the night flowed seamlessly.

"Amicitia sempiterna" – Eternal friendship. Guests arrived early, dressed in their semi-casual best, predominantly in shades of blue and black. As they mingled and greeted friends across generations, they enjoyed red and white wines courtesy of Dimbulla Wines. The Emcee kicked off the evening with a grand introduction of the six-piece band, Redemption, setting the tone for the night.

"Memoriae causa" – For the sake of memory. Following the raffle draw, STCOBA President Sanjiv Vivekanandan delivered a heartfelt welcome speech. Thomians young and old sang the College song with enthusiasm, reminiscing about their cherished school days. The band resumed, filling the dance floor with exuberant dancers until the inevitable conclusion of the night. The band then took over, entertaining a packed floor until it was time to head home begrudgingly.

"Spiritus Thomianus" – The Thomian spirit. The 2024 Thomian Family Night was a resounding success, a night filled with laughter, music, and lasting memories. The event was a testament to the enduring Thomian spirit and the strong bonds of fellowship within the community.

"Gratias agimus" – We give thanks. A special thank you to the committee and their families for their unwavering efforts in making this event possible. Here’s to many more nights of Thomian magic!
